Selling your used car and the effect of a maintenance record

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

One trend that is gaining steam is when someone is buying a used car, they want the maintenance records. Most people are now wanting to see if a car they want to buy has a record of maintenance. Because if you do have someone who did care for their car, you can trust that it should last longer. So if you own a car it is very important to keep all the records of service.  Because a buyer will want to see that.

So some things you can do is every time you go in to get service for your car keep a receipt of it.  In my San Diego auto repair business I make sure to give all my clients a receipt of the work that was done.  Make sure whichever company you take your car into does the same. This may very well be the difference in selling it for the price you were after or selling it for less.

Also whenever you take your car in for a tune up keep a record of it.  Getting regular tune ups help keep your car running longer and smoother.  It also helps to get your car to pass a smog test much easier.  In my San Dieg smog check center I notice cars that weren’t tuned up regularly are the ones that fail the test.

Finally you want to keep good records of when you take your car in for brake maintenance. This is a big part of caring for your vehicle and its maintenance. It one thing that a prospective buyer will want to look at.Because a new buyer definitely does not want to have to get an expensive brake job.  So in my San Diego brake shop I make sure to give a thorough report to all my clients.

Hopefully you see how important maintenance is if you want to sell your car for top dollar.  Buyers want good cars that were maintained.By taking care to keep all maintenance records you will be able to prove that you did maintain it.

How the information age affects used cars

Friday, October 9th, 2009

Buy and sell of used cars is a great business during these times. It will grow bigger during bad economic times.People nowadays may need to sell the cars they can’t afford. While people that needs to buy a car will instead opt for a used car rather than a new one.Maintenance records are now important in the information age.  Mainly because used cars records are so easily viewed.Cars that has been taken good care of will fetch more money.  So it is very important to maintain your cars.

You may have probably seen those car commercials where the buyers want to look at the maintenance records of the cars.  That isn’t so unbelievable. As more people learn of this service the would want to avail of it too.So if you have plans on selling your car then you better keep good records. Whenever I service any client at my San Diego auto repair shop I make sure they always get a record of their service. The number of clients that think that this is not important may surprise you.

It is so important. An example would be when you don’t want to buy a car that has not been maintained well because of stricter smog laws.  I get cars in all the time while checking them at my San Diego smog check shop who fail because of improper maintenance. Cars that pass these smog tests are the cars that are usually getting regular tuneups. The cars that usually fail are the cars that are not ususally maintained.

It is also the same with the brakes.Minor brake jobs will turn into major expensive brake problems if you don’t maintain your brakes.  Just by doing regular maintenance for my clients at my San Diego brake shop I have been able to save them hundreds if not thousands on extra expenses.  And with brakes it saves you with safety issues as well.

So in this information age where records are easily kept and viewed you must make sure to keep records of all the services your car has gone through.  It will help you in the long run.

Interesting ways to save money in your car

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

Today most Americans are trying to find ways to save more of their money. With the current state of the economy who can blame them. They find ways to get rid of extra expenses.Or they might not go out as much. They aren’t going out and buying things of no use.But I would like to examine a way that might not have crossed your mind. That way you can find with your car.

When a lot of people consider using their cars to save money they think of ways to use less gas. They try to come up with ways of spending less money on gas.But what I would like to offer is the fact that if you keep your car properly maintained you can save a lot more.  I know this for a fact running my San Diego auto repair company.

With most cars people usually don’t think of maintenance. Unfortunately, when they do find themselves thinking about it, it is because it is too late. They wait for their car to have something go wrong or something to break down. But from what I have witnessed doing this and waiting ends up making the auto repair expenses more costly.

As an example let look at your brakes. If you do proper maintenance with your brakes you are able to avoid expensive repairs. If you do not do it, you will have some exspensive disc brakes that will need a repair.  Or you might have  to replace the brake shoes.By using your brakes properly and then maintaining them you will save yourself some money.  So take it in to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop and you can find out if you need to do anything.  Thinks like making sure it has enough brake fluid.

Or people don’t get tuneups with their car.  They let the engine go.They do not do an oil change as frequently as they should. This ends up making your cars engine to start running badly.  So bad that it won’t pass a smog test.  From what I have seen running a smog test San Diego shop, if you fail a smog test, this can lead to expensive repairs just to get it to pass.

But if you properly maintain your car you can keep it in good shape.  The engine will run smoother and properly.Go and wait too long and it will end up costing you more money in the long run.

Hopefully this shows you that you can save money by maintaining your car. Spend your money now and you will end up spending less in the future.
