Selling your used car and the effect of a maintenance record
Saturday, October 10th, 2009One trend that is gaining steam is when someone is buying a used car, they want the maintenance records. Most people are now wanting to see if a car they want to buy has a record of maintenance. Because if you do have someone who did care for their car, you can trust that it should last longer. So if you own a car it is very important to keep all the records of service. Because a buyer will want to see that.
So some things you can do is every time you go in to get service for your car keep a receipt of it. In my San Diego auto repair business I make sure to give all my clients a receipt of the work that was done. Make sure whichever company you take your car into does the same. This may very well be the difference in selling it for the price you were after or selling it for less.
Also whenever you take your car in for a tune up keep a record of it. Getting regular tune ups help keep your car running longer and smoother. It also helps to get your car to pass a smog test much easier. In my San Dieg smog check center I notice cars that weren’t tuned up regularly are the ones that fail the test.
Finally you want to keep good records of when you take your car in for brake maintenance. This is a big part of caring for your vehicle and its maintenance. It one thing that a prospective buyer will want to look at.Because a new buyer definitely does not want to have to get an expensive brake job. So in my San Diego brake shop I make sure to give a thorough report to all my clients.
Hopefully you see how important maintenance is if you want to sell your car for top dollar. Buyers want good cars that were maintained.By taking care to keep all maintenance records you will be able to prove that you did maintain it.
